What we collect
When you order: your name, billing and shipping address, email address, phone number, and confirmation that payment succeeded. Payment card details are handled by Shopify Payments and never reach our systems. We never see your card number.
When you browse: your IP address, approximate location, browser and operating system, and the pages you view. This comes from Shopify's own analytics and from any cookies you consent to.
When you subscribe to our email: your email address, and nothing else. We do not require a name.
We do not load fonts, scripts, or trackers from third-party servers on our storefront pages. Every typeface and script the page needs is served from our own domain. This is deliberate: embedding a third-party font would send your IP address to that provider before you had any chance to consent.
How your order is fulfilled, and who sees your details
This is the part most stores leave out, and it is the part that actually affects you.
Alder & Copper does not hold most of its stock. When you order, the piece is shipped to you directly by the workshop or distributor that makes or stocks it. Your name, delivery address, and phone number are passed to that third party so they can pack and send your parcel. There is no way to deliver your order without doing this.
Your order details are shared with:
| Who | Role | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Inc. | Runs our store, processes payment | Order and payment data |
| Spocket | Routes our orders to the fulfilling supplier | Name, address, phone, order contents |
| The fulfilling supplier | Picks, packs, and ships your parcel | Name, address, phone, order contents |
| The carrier | Delivers it | Name, address, phone |
We share the minimum needed to get the parcel to you. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass your details to suppliers for their own marketing.
One thing we will be straight about. Our fulfilment platform identifies its suppliers to us under trading names rather than registered company names. That means we can tell you the country your item ships from, and we do, on every product page. We cannot currently publish a named list of every sub-processor. We regard that as a shortcoming of the arrangement rather than an acceptable state of affairs, and we are pressing for it to change.
Where your information goes
Our suppliers are in the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.
If you are in the EU or UK, ordering a product fulfilled from outside your region means your delivery details are transferred outside the EEA or UK. Where that happens we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or on an adequacy decision where one applies.
Every product page states the country the item ships from. If you would rather your details did not leave your region, you know that before you buy, not after.
Email we send you
If you subscribe, we send one email a week about the objects we sell and where they come from. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click, and we act on it immediately.
We send you transactional messages regardless of whether you subscribe: order confirmation, dispatch notice, tracking, and anything that goes wrong. You cannot unsubscribe from these, because they are part of the order you placed.
We do not sell or rent your email address. Ever.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Order records | 7 years | Tax and accounting law |
| Marketing contact details | Until you unsubscribe | |
| Analytics | Shopify's own retention schedule for our plan | We do not run separate analytics of our own |
| Support correspondence | 2 years | So we can honour a warranty claim |
When a supplier has completed and delivered your order, we ask them to keep your details only for as long as their own returns and warranty obligations require.
Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the store to work, such as remembering what is in your cart. Anything beyond that, including analytics and marketing cookies, runs only if you consent. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw consent for marketing at any time.
If you are in California you have the right to know what we collect, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.
Write to privacy@alderandcopper.com and we will respond within 30 days.
If you think we have handled your information badly, you can complain to your local data protection authority. In the EU that is the authority in your country of residence. In the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office.
One limit we will be honest about. When you ask us to delete your information, we can delete it from our own systems, and we can pass the request to our fulfilment platform and to the supplier who shipped your order. We cannot technically verify that they have completed the deletion. We will tell you what we asked for and what we were told, rather than claim a certainty we do not have.
Changes to this statement
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and you are subscribed to our email, we will tell you directly rather than rely on you noticing.
